The Battle of Hastings
It was October 14 that day long ago
William the conqueror came with solders in tow.
In ships of timber across the the blue sea,
Saying, “The English throne belongs to me!”
But resistance he found on the path to the throne
For Sir Harold was there with a claim of his own.
The Normans shouted, “Get out of our way!”
But Harold replied “I’m here to stay,”
They fought and fought and fought some more
Then Harold went down to rise no more.
The Saxons let out a groan of dismay
As a shout rang up, “Victory is ours today!”
Here and now my story ends,
Of William the conqueror and his fearless men.
