Things Heard on the Trail

Yesterday I was privileged to be joined by 9 teens and 1 adult on the trail at natural Bridge State Park. It was a gorgeous day. The sun was shining, the temperature cool, and the leaves just beginning to turn from green to red, gold, orange and a whole combination.

It was fine day for walking, talking and listening. Some of the the things I heard were
- The singing of silly songs by . . . And . . .
- . . . .'s delight in big leaves from a catalpa tree
- The quietness of . . .
- The assuredness of . . .
- The questioning of . . .
- The playful mocking of . . .
- The agony of . . .
- The creativeness of . . .

I took in the stillness of the trees, the path well worn, the luscious green places, the dead sticks.
Taking a trek is a spiritual and physical experience. They are commingled together just as the veryness of Christ is commingled with the bread and wine in the Eucharist. At no point were we not on a spiritual journey and at no occasion were we not pressing the body.

The land speaks of the goodness of creation, of the terror of the fall, of the hope of redemption.

Glory be to God.
