In Marion, Indiana

Today we traveled to Marion, IN. We're here because of a wedding we'll attend. The invitation came from a young man, who was a really young man 13 years ago when I was the Youth Pastor at Amboy Friends Church in Amboy, IN. Amboy is a small farming community about 30 minutes west of Marion on Highway 19.
This afternoon we drove around town. Anna and I had an experience that kids who've lived some place and moved away often experience - the "things seem so much smaller" experience. It's been at least 6 or 7 years since we've been in Marion, the home of our college days. We are surprised at the size of the houses, they seem to have shrunk. Businesses that were present years ago look unchanged. Some restaurants were gone or boarded up. Marion has had difficult economic times.
At the same time the college has had a different story. It has doubled in size (on the campus), and has tons of new buildings, with more going up now. The south end of town is amazing.
We stopped in to see our Sunday School teachers from our first stay in Wilmore; Dave and Angie Smith. They moved to Marion in the late 90's so Dave could teach at IWU. We dropped by their home - a testimony of the good and grandiose days of Marion. It was built in the late 1890's and is filled with ornate touches.
The boys enjoyed meeting Dave and Angie, but they really enjoyed meeting their daughter, Hannah and her friends Alicia. If Asa were a few years older I think he'd have been working to steal Hannah's heart.
Dave and Angie are doing well and will be in Wilmore this summer.
