Amber Light

the amber rays of the sun fall across the roof
the deck
the freshly mowed grass
a soft breeze meets me tonight on the deck
the first night of the summer
a night with no baseball
a night with no school
a night with no pressing agenda
wait a minute
the dishes need to be washed
the signs finished for the yard sale
the kids washed of their grass and dirt for the slip and slide
the kids asking for coffee,
Aravis adds, with milk and sugar
always an agenda
a need
I wonder what agenda does the sun hold
to warm us? to burn us? to grow our food? to melt our snow? to light our world?
maybe to glorify its maker
the sun,
the children,
the agenda,
amber light fall across my soul
